Armidale has an abundance of sights and activities, something for everyone regardless of your age or fitness level. The region is home to elegant cathedrals, pastoral homesteads, heritage buildings, fascinating museums and galleries, as well as access to world heritage natural wonders.
Around Armidale are a number of interesting half and full day trips to surrounding centres such as Uralla - haunt of the famous bushranger Thunderbolt, Walcha - with its spectacular sculptures and Guyra – top of the range.
HERITAGE DRIVE (25kms). A 2 hour self-drive tour of Armidale's fine architectural landmarks, museums, parks and lookouts.
HERITAGE WALK (3.2kms). A self-guided loop walk which highlights the interesting features of Armidale's city centre, including many beautiful buildings and churches.
SAUMAREZ HOMESTEAD (New England Highway (Waterfall Way) - near airport). National Trust Property. Guided and self guided tours available daily at a small charge.
BOOLOOMINBAH (at the University of New England). Built in 1888, it is a magnificent former Gentleman's Residence in the fashionable English style, housing the Gordon Window & surrounded by beautiful grounds.

BUSHWALKING AND SIGHTSEEING
OXLEY WILD RIVERS
Wollomombi Gorge Located 40 kms east of Armidale. Houses the 220 metre Wollomombi Falls. Spectacular views and gorge rim walks.
Dangars Gorge. Located 21 kms south-east of Armidale. Home to 120 metre Dangars Falls. Great long and short walks.
Gara Gorge (Blue Hole) Located 16 kms east. Site of Australia's first Hydro-Electric scheme. Great area for picnics and for children/families.
NEW ENGLAND NATIONAL PARK
Located 85kms east of Armidale. Heritage listed 29985 ha haven for bushwalkers and siteseers. Majestic views and good walking.
CATHEDRAL ROCK Located 80 kms east of Armidale. The 360 degree view from the top of the rock is magnificent and definitely well worth the climb.
GUY FAWKES NATIONAL PARK Located 80 kms east of Armidale. Visit the Ebor Falls, a gorgeous two tier waterfall.
STYX RIVER STATE FOREST Located 60 kms east of Armidale. Alpine forest, rugged escarpments and fast flowing rivers. Good 4wd tracks.
MOUNT YARROWYCK NATURE RESERVE 27 kms west of Armidale. Significant landmark of Aboriginal Cultural heritage. Includes a short 3 km walk to the sites.
DUMARESQ DAM 15 kms north west of Armidale. Great for families and picnics. There is an easy walk around the dam which is relatively flat.
DANGARS LAGOON 27 kms south of Armidale. A lagoon filled with an abundance of birdlife, viewed from a bird hide.
