The community heath requirements of Country NSW has changed substantially over the last decade as has the provision of health care to those communities. Changes and improvements to heath care in NSW country areas has resulted in greater provision of services and better results for communities. Hospital stays are shorter, there is expanding use of technology, more services are delivered in the community and increasingly more older people are able to and choose to be cared for at home. Further, there is greater emphasis on primary health care including health improvement and prevention programs.
For country NSW communities, flexible services are on offer which are client-focussed and responsive to communities’ needs through well integrated services.
NSW Rural Health Services include a system of integrated Rural Hospitals and Health Services, Primary Health Care Services and other services aimed to ensure the highest possible quality of health care is available throughout regional NSW
These services strive to attend to the range of factors impacting on the provision of health and aged care services in rural communities most notably the ability of those communities to sustain a range of independent services.
