Forget about putting your name down weeks ahead for that tee time at the local golf course, not being able to get a booking at the squash or tennis courts, or heading to the pool to do some laps only to find 50 people are there before you.

In most regional and country towns all these facilities are available without the crowds! There are very few towns these days that don’t boast their own 18 hole golf course where you can always get a game. Most of these country courses are a show piece in the town and are lovingly cared for by the members and professional ground staff.

And talking about members, forget about membership fees rising into the thousands of dollars. On most country and regional courses you can join the local golf club for under $500. What’s more, you’ll be made more than welcome by a friendly group of golfers who love to see new blood coming into their club.

And if bowls is your preferred sport, you’ll be catered for in just about every country and regional centre in New South Wales. Lawn bowls is amongst the biggest participant sports in the world and country and regional New South Wales is no exception. There are not too many days when keen bowlers aren’t out on the greens in the country.

Children are extremely well looked after when it comes to choosing a sport in the country. Tennis, golf, netball and basketball are all on the agenda, along with soccer, rugby league, rugby union, cricket and swimming, amongst many others. Well run junior sporting clubs abound in all country centres.

Large inland dams provide fantastic venues for water skiing and the recreational fisherman. Then there are those sports and pastimes that are particular to country areas. A number of horse sports including rodeo, camp drafting, polo cross and polo can be found everywhere, along with just riding for pleasure.

There is never a shortage of something to do in the country!
